Where we state the law we state it narrowly and name the instrument. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001, the existence of BetStop as the national self-exclusion register, and the fact that wagering operators are licensed by states and territories. Where the detail differs between jurisdictions or changes over time, we say so rather than picking a number.

What This Site Checks, What It Does Not, and Why We Publish No Rankings
Most pages with "methodology" in the title are there to make a ranking look earned. We do not publish a ranking, so this page does the opposite job: it states plainly what our pages are based on, what we have not done, and where the limits of our knowledge sit. It is the shortest honest version we can write.

Play online: pokies, live dealer tables and sport
A venue keeps hours and a dress code, and the floor is a drive away. The same pokies and tables run online at any hour, most games have a demo mode so you can see how one pays before you stake anything, and deposits go through PayID or a bank transfer.

This block is advertising: if you open an account from the button, this site is paid a commission. No online casino holds an Australian licence, so an Australian regulator will not take a complaint about one and BetStop does not cover it. Check the wagering requirement, the time limit and the withdrawal rules before you deposit. Over 18 only. Gambling can become a problem: Gambling Help Online, 1800 858 858, is free and open at any hour.
What we do not claim
Starting here, because it is the part that matters and the part most comparable sites leave out.
- We have not tested wagering or gaming operators. We have not opened funded accounts to review them, timed withdrawals, or run complaints through to a decision in order to grade anyone.
- We do not publish scores, stars, ratings or ordered lists of operators, and we do not say that we have checked and recommend anything.
- We do not publish tips, selections, previews or predictions, for racing or for sport. Nothing on this site forecasts a result.
- We make no promise or implication that any bet, offer, account or strategy will return money.
- We do not hold a wagering licence, take bets, hold funds or act as an intermediary in a dispute.
If any page on this site reads as though it does one of those things, it is written badly and we would rather be told.
What our pages are actually built from
Three kinds of material, and we try to keep them visibly separate in the text.
Wagering rules, bonus terms and complaints clauses are documents anyone can read. Where we describe how such a clause works, we are describing the category of clause and telling you to read your own operator's version, because they differ.
Tote pools against fixed odds, each-way, deductions after a scratching, decimal odds as an implied probability, the Australian track rating scale. This is structural knowledge about the activity, and it is the bulk of what these pages contain.
Three things we refuse to do, and why
How advertising sits on these pages
This site carries commercial blocks, and a reader who opens an account from one may generate a commission for the site. Those blocks are labelled as advertising where they appear. They are not a ranking, not a review and not an endorsement, and their presence is not evidence that anybody checked anything about the destination.
We think the honest way to run an advertising-funded information site is to keep the advertising visibly separate from the explanation, and to state the uncomfortable facts about the advertised category in the explanation anyway. That is why the pages about casino games say that no Australian licence exists even though the advertising sits on the same screen.
If a block on this site is labelled as advertising, read it as advertising. If a page makes a factual claim, the claim should be either a named statute, a published document, or a structural description of how an activity works. Anything else should not be there.
What we would change our minds about
A methodology is only worth reading if it says what would make it wrong. On the factual claims these pages rest on, the answers are specific. If an Australian licensing framework for online casino games came into existence, the pages saying no such licence exists would be wrong and would be rewritten. If BetStop's scope were extended beyond licensed online wagering, every page describing that gap would need correcting. If the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 were amended in the relevant part, the legal pages would need to be redone from the statute.
On the racing material the test is different, because tote mechanics and deduction rules are not going to change. What can change is an individual operator's version of a rule, which is exactly why these pages send you to your own account's terms rather than quoting a number we would then have to maintain.
Dates and currency
Pages on this site carry a last-modified date in their source. Treat anything that depends on operator terms, available markets or payment options as needing a check against the operator's own current page, regardless of when ours was written.
Questions about this site
Are you a bookmaker?
No. We take no bets, hold no funds and hold no wagering licence.
Can you help with a dispute about my account?
No. We have no access to any operator's systems. Our complaints page sets out the path that does exist.
Do you accept payment for favourable coverage?
We publish no rankings or reviews to be favourable in. Advertising blocks are labelled as advertising and are not presented as assessment.
How do you decide what to write about?
By the questions Australian punters actually ask about racing, wagering rules and the legal position, and by what can be answered from a statute, a published document or the structure of the activity itself. If a subject can only be covered by guessing, we would rather leave the page empty than fill it.
Why is there no "best bookmaker" page here?
Because we have not done the work that would justify one. What we can offer instead is the set of checks you can run yourself, on our licensed accounts page.
